On the last leg of the Bicol LGRRC benchmarking of LGU Camalig and Daraga engage in an in-depth knowledge sharing activity of best practices and programs with the Municipality of Cordova in Cebu Province last June 1, 2023.![]()
Functionaries and delegation of LGU Camalig and Daraga were welcomed by Cordova Vice Mayor Victor Tago III. In his message, VM Tago III said that the municipality of Cordova looks forward to venture hand-in-hand business partnerships with the visiting LGUs.![]()
Meanwhile, Sangguniang Bayan Secretary Paulo Tagsip shared that with the successful joint venture of having the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) built through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the municipality envisions to become the gateway of Bohol to Cebu by engaging in another PPP project, building a new bridge connecting the two islands.![]()
Based from the knowledge sharing of the host and visiting LGUs, both share the same practice of utilizing its natural resources in promoting eco tourism to boost the economy of their municipalities while also being responsible in preserving these local environmental assets present in their municipalities.![]()
The Municipality of Cordova is checking for a possibility to visit and benchmark LGUs Daraga and Camalig.![]()
Meanwhile, DILG R5 looks forward to promote the program of the Bicol LGRRC by means of engaging more Bicolano LGUs with performing LGUs outside the region. The delegation was also welcomed by Cordova's Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO) Shevah Trixy Caoctoy.

The conferred CY 2023 LTIA Regional Awardees under City, 1st to 3rd class, and 4th to the 6th class municipality will receive due recognition for the title, and the rank one per category are regional winners to be endorsed to the LTIA National Level. ![]()
Aligned with Memorandum Circular No. 2023-022, these barangays were validated by the LTIA Regional Awards Committee composed of the DILG, Department of Justice (DOJ), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Civil Society Organization (CSO) representatives from Gayon Cares Inc.

On the last day of the benchmarking and knowledge exchange, delegates and functionaries from LGU Camalig and Daraga visited the Provincial Government of Cebu today, June 1, 2023.![]()
Cebu Provincial Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia, provincial government's department heads, and board members warmly welcomed the delegation headed by Mayor Carlwyn Baldo of Daraga and Mayor Carlos Erwin Baldo of Camalig.![]()
In her message, Gov. Garcia highlighted that those blessed with the privilege to serve their countrymen, most especially the less fortunate, must always keep in mind to achieve unity to deliver quality public service and good governance. ![]()
The governor of Cebu also hopes that the flagship programs of the province, introduced by her department heads to the delegation, will find a place to be implemented in the municipalities of Daraga and Camalig. ![]()
She also said that their tourism program, dubbed as Suroy Suroy sa Sugbo, can be the stepping stone for both LGUs to adopt in their respective municipalities in promoting their tourism more and increase the municipality's economy.![]()
Moreover, Cebu Provincial Board Member Raymond Calderon hopes that LGUs Camalig and Daraga continue to foster a good relationship with the province.![]()
In a message of thanks and support, DILG Region 5 Assistant Regional Director Jhoaden G. Lucero, CESO V extends her utmost gratitude to the Provincial Government of Cebu in their support of one of the programs of the Bicol LGRRC— through benchmarking Bicolano LGUs to performing LGUs outside their locality.![]()
Both LGUs Daraga and Camalig mayors also expressed their sincerest thanks to the Provincial Government of Cebu. Both said that the knowledge imparted to them will further enhance their plan and initiative in seeking more ways to enhance their delivery of good governance and quality service, especially in the tourism sector in their municipalities.![]()
After the benchmarking event, the delegation had an ocular visit to Cebu Province's SP Hall. Also, it paid a courtesy visit to the DILG Cebu province's office, headed by Provincial Director Atty. Ian Kenneth B. Lucero.

Occidental from PAGASA, met with DILG 5 Local Government Capacity Development Division, led by Division Chief, LGOO VII Ma. Ruthel P. Gigantoca, Assistant Division Chief Mae C. Clemente, and LGOO II April Dawn Daep, to gather valuable insights on the Capability Enhancement for High-Quality Weather Observation, Forecast, Warning, and Information in the Philippines, also known as the JPOW-2 project.![]()
The Japanese team engaged in a productive discussion, posing specific queries related to the DILG's response during extreme weather events, the utilization of information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), as well as the responses of Local Government Units (LGUs) upon receiving vital information from the DILG.![]()
Spanning from February 2021 to February 2024, the JPOW-2 project has identified the municipality of Nabua in Camarines Sur as one of its target areas. In preparation for forthcoming workshops related to the initiative, the Japanese experts also visited the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Nabua. LGOO V Ervin J. Belano, the Officer-in-Charge of the Municipal Local Government Operations Office (MLGOO) in Nabua, assisted with their visit and provided valuable support and coordination.![]()
The partnership between Japanese experts, JICA, and the DILG 5 showcases a shared commitment to bolstering weather forecasting capabilities and preparedness in the Philippines. With improved observation and forecasting techniques, the nation can better safeguard its citizens and minimize the adverse impacts of extreme weather events.

On the second day of the benchmarking and knowledge-sharing activity between LGUs of Bicol and Central Visayas, the Region 5 delegates, composed of officials and select personnel of DILG 5 and LGUs of Camalig and Daraga, visited the historical city of Lapu-Lapu at the SP Session Hall, May 31, 2023.![]()
The department heads showed that there are many things worth replicating in Lapu-Lapu City, but the most notable ones are within the tourism sector. Some of their initiatives include the recording and proper data banking of the arrival of tourists and the grand celebration of KADAUGAN SA MACTAN, Lapu-Lapu’s traditional month-long festivity for the victory of Mactan.![]()
The local government puts up a total budget of around PHP 4 Million for the celebration, according to John Kristoffer Rafols, Officer-in-charge of the city’s Tourism Department. Besides tourism, the LGU also focuses on Lapu-Lapu’s export processing zone, which allows economic expansion.![]()
After a productive session, the group proceeded to the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), where they had an orientation on airport operations and management and a tour of its facilities.![]()
