To drive inspiration, innovation and information in the battle against COVID-19 crisis, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urges local government units (LGUs) to maximize the newly launched LGU vs COVID PH information portal designed as a reliable platform for sharing of best practices and relevant and factual information for LGUs.

DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año says that given that information is a potent tool against COVID-19, the portal which can be accessed on www.lguvscovid.ph is a game changer. He says that LGUs from all parts of the country should regularly visit the website as a means of benchmarking on best practices undertaken by other LGUs against COVID-19.

“What we need in this COVID-19 crisis is a concerted and unified effort for us to stand a chance and the LGU vs COVID PH website provides LGUs with all the latest guidelines and issuances from the IATF and other national government agencies,” Año says.

“LGUs need to arm themselves with information. Para itong repository ng mga best practices, mahahalaga at tamang impormasyon at inspirasyon na sana ay bigyan ng atensyon ng ating mga pamahalaang lokal,” he adds.

LGU vs COVID PH, says Año, as a collaborative effort between the DILG and The Asia Foundation, is a platform launched to equip LGUs with updates, information, innovation and best practices versus COVID-19.

Año says that he hopes LGUs can maximize the information available on the website to counter the proliferation of fake news, and sees it as an ally in the battle against the coronavirus, which is foreseen to drag at least until the early quarter of 2021 or until a cure or vaccine can be discovered. “We are in for the long haul and placing COVID-19 at the forefront of LGUs’ priorities would be the new normal for the local chief executives kaya sana ay makita nila ang LGU vs COVID PH bilang kakampi sa laban na ito,” he says.

“Iwas fake news din ang website na ito as all information posted on the site are thoroughly verified prior to publication,”he adds.

He says that upon visiting the website, LGUs will also be given options on the information they need which ranges from Medical Facilities; Resources/Fund Utilization; Support to Frontliners; Transportation; Community Response; IEC Materials; and Relief and Assistance, among others.

He explains that since its inception, the website is also deemed to be a source of inspiration for LGUs nationwide, hence, it features stories that can uplift the morale of local governments as they confront the challenges brought by the virus. “Kasama ng impormasyon, hangad din natin na ito ay maging source of inspiration para sa ating mga LGU.”

LGU vs COVIDPH was originally initiated by Golda and Caryl Benjamin as a Google Site after the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon with other volunteers Ron Ranier Reyes, Kristine Licup, Theresa Maymay, and Leilani Solera.

Through the technical and financial support of The Asia Foundation and in cooperation with the DILG, the website was expanded and redesigned to further increase its impact as a portal which can play a vital role in the fight against COVID-19.Facebook
