DILG Region 5 takes part in the official start of celebrating the Fire Prevention Month 2024 with the theme: “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nag-iisa” on March 5, 2024 at the Bicol University College of Engineering (BUCENG) Gymnasium.

The program started with “Lakaw Kabikolan: Rally for a Fire-Safe Bicol Fun Walk”, an early morning unity walk from Peñaranda Park, Old Albay District up to Bicol University College of Engineering Campus, Legazpi City.

DILG Regional Director Atty. Arnaldo E. Escober Jr. CESO V, expressed his gratitude to the BFP for their tireless efforts in organizing the Fire Prevention Month 2024 kick off activity. According to RD Escober Jr. this initiative highlights the collective obligation to ensure the safety and security of homes, as well as to sustain the vibrant and lively atmosphere that characterizes the region of Bicol. It emphasizes the importance of taking proactive measures to safeguard our communities against potential threats.

RD Escober Jr. also said that by working together and supporting one another, people can create a safer and more resilient environment for ourselves and future generations to come.

“We at the DILG, are committed to making Fire Prevention Month a transformative time for the Bicol Region. We want to do more than just observe this month – we aim to instigate a shift towards a culture of proactive fire safety,” he added.

Furthermore, RD Claudio L. Yucot of OCD 5 served as the guest of honor and the ceremony was attended by the regional directors of different government agencies including FCSUP Ricardo C. Perdigon, DSC of BFP R5, PBGen. Andre Perez Dizon of PNP R5, RD Jail Chief Superintendent Joel S Superficial of BJMP R5, and representatives from partner agencies, private sectors, and volunteers. Also in attendance are Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres III, SUC President of Bicol University, Assistant Regional Director Jhoaden G. Lucero CESO V, and other DILG 5 personnel.

RD Escober Jr. together with DILG R5 is also committed to work closely with the LGUs to develop and implement effective safety measures. DILG R5 will always be a reliable partner, to assist, guide, and collaborate with LGUs to ensure the safety, security, and prosperity of every community.
