In response to the need for enhancement on the operations and capacity of the Local Governance Regional Resource Centers (LGRRCs), the Local Government Academy and the Department of the Interior and Local Government with the support of the European Union conducted a training-workshop on Content Development and Database Management for LGRC Multimedia Knowledge Focal Person and IT Officers on June 25-29, 2012 at Hotel Rembrandt, Quezon City.
The 5-day training workshop was a timely intervention in scaling up the LGRRCs in order to be more productive. The training also intended to equip the LGRRCs with the skills on processing, codifying, storing and providing access through a central database. As champion and advocate for knowledge management in the development of our department as a knowledge centric organization, the participants from the 17 regional centers under the LGRC actively shared, contributed and provided inputs in the workshop with the following end results:
- Creation of the Regional LGRC KM Framework
- Regional LGRC Taxonomy showing the hierarchy of knowledge to be shared
- Identification of IT component framework inclusive of the inventory list of ICT infrastructure, LGU-related data format, pool of IT experts, budget, and existing IT policies
- Listing of major content categories of the Regional Dashboard
A PDS-based HRIS System was also introduced. It is an online Human Resource Information System focusing on monitoring and updating of personnel profile. The system is built on self updating of members through their username.
Moreover, to effectively harmonize existing database from all the regions, a core group was created to facilitate the development of data standard for use in the database, assist the management in drafting training designs related to IT and identify appropriate IT systems. Likewise, a minimum standard was set for all regional websites including .gov.ph domain. –(ITO 1 Eden S. Lanuza)
