Local governance took center stage during the RIDS Follow Through Session, a progress meeting for Category 1 LGUs, held on December 6, 2024, at Proxy by The Oriental Albay Hotel in Legazpi City.
This event, organized under the Bikol EKSPRES (Enhanced Knowledge Sharing and Performance Tracking for Revitalized LGU Engagement for the Seal of Good Local Governance or SGLG) initiative, reaffirmed DILG Region 5’s commitment to strengthening governance across the Bicol Region. The session focused on tracking progress, refining strategies, and gearing up for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).
Key discussions included a comprehensive overview of 2024 SGLG Results by Ms. Melany F. Quiton, Division Chief of Local Government Performance Division, along with updates on RIDS 2024 targets and activities, led by LGMED Division Chief LGOO VII Darlyn D. Ayende. Attendees gained valuable insights into the SGLG 2024 Regional Data delivered by LGOO VI Roma Santa C. Miranda, 2024 Post-Assessment and Upcoming Changes for SGLG, by LGOO VI Amaline R. Colina outlining adjustments to governance criteria and strategies for continuous improvement. Updates on the 2025 SGLG Cycle were presented by ARD Jhoaden E. Lucero CESO IV, focusing on proactive compliance and preparation measures. The event also featured workshops and action planning sessions by province to help tailor approaches for achieving SGLG compliance.
Guidance and inspiration were provided by key figures, including Regional Director Atty. Arnaldo E. Escober Jr., SLGP PM Glenn Q. Miranda, representing Program Manager Richard L. Villacorte, OIC Atty. Salvacion Z. Baccay, CESO V of PACS, and DIR. Debie T. Torres, CESO IV of BLGS. Their collective efforts underscore the dedication of DILG Region 5 to empowering LGUs in their pursuit of governance excellence and fostering a culture of accountability and high-quality public service for the Bicolano people.
DILG Region 5 categorized LGUs based on their capacity, commitment, and progress, aligning their efforts toward achieving the Seal. A series of Progress Meetings customized for Categories 2 and 3 LGUs will commence next year.
