President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. conducted a personal visit to the Bicol Region on October 26, 2024, to check on displaced residents affected by TS Kristine and assess the full extent of the damage caused by the storm.
Joined by Secretary of Interior of Local Government Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr., DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, DND Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, and SAP Antonio Lagdameo Jr., PBBM held a situation briefing with local government officials to evaluate the conditions of the affected areas and discuss additional relief measures to support the region’s recovery. PBBM gave his directives to act on the recommendations and suggestions raised during the situation briefing.
Prior to the situation briefing, President Marcos Jr. inspected rice fields submerged in floodwaters in Barangay Causip, Bula, Camarines Sur.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), mobilized PhP56.5 million worth of family food packs to provide immediate relief to displaced families across the region. The DILG 5 are also in close coordination with affected LGUs in Bicol to help raise their concerns and needs with concerned national government agencies.
On October 22, TS ‘Kristine struck the region with heavy to intense rains, pouring down 500 millimeters of rain within just 24 hours — equivalent to two months’ worth of rainfall. This unprecedented downpour triggered landslides, massive flooding, and extensive damage to properties and agricultural lands.
