DILG Region 5 successfully wrapped up a two-day Reorientation on Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment, Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) Fundamentals for LGUs, and DILG Officers on May 3-4, 2024, via Zoom.
The activity equipped LGUs and DILG officers with the necessary knowledge and tools relative to the Formulation of Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment, thereby enhancing their capacity to develop CLUPs sensitive to climate and disaster risks, promoting resilience and sustainability in land use planning.
Regional Director Atty. Arnaldo E. Escober Jr., CESO V, stressed the critical importance of comprehensive planning for land resources while aligning their usage with climate change considerations. Emphasizing the necessity of a permanent plan for the sustainable management of resources, he underscored the significance of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) as a legacy for future generations. He urged the timely crafting, adoption, and organization of strategies to effectively manage land resources for the benefit of present and future communities.
ARD Jhoaden G. Lucero, CESO V, emphasized the significance of the activity in updating and enhancing LGUs’ capacity in formulating Climate and Disaster Risk Assessments, along with Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs). This is vital for ensuring that LGUs have the tools and interventions needed to effectively create resilient and sustainable communities.
Moreover, Mary Kathleen Cristy C. Vibar, EnP, the division chief of The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) – Environmental, Land Use, and Urban Planning & Development Division, served as the resource person, discussing CLUP concepts, process, document structure, enhancements, review, adoption, and alignment with urban development goals.
