Reorientation on BPOC, BADAC and BCPC of Pio V. Corpus, Masbate

Reorientation of Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC), Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) and Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) was conducted to the 18 barangays of Pio V. Corpus on March 13, 15-17 and 23, 2017. This was spearheaded by DILG Pio V. Corpus with the support of the local PNP and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).

This activity was one of the targets for the first quarter reflected in the Peace and Order and Public Safety (POPS) Plan of LGU Pio V. Corpus for CY 2017. It was identified as one of the crucial activity with regards to peace and order and public safety as only few of the barangays have functional BPOC, BADAC and BCPC. The barangays will not be effective in addressing peace and order and public safety issues if these will not be functional.

Members of these councils as well as the Punong Barangays appreciated the effort of the team in reminding them of the legal bases, their roles and functions and the frequency of meetings to be conducted. Clarifications by the different councils’ members were made on the questions raised as well as suggestions and recommendations by the Resource Persons on strategies on how to make the councils functional.

The effectiveness of this activity will be measured by the quarterly reports of the barangay on the functionality of these barangay based institutions (BBIs). It was also stressed during the Reorientation that failure of the Punong Barangay as Chairman of these BBIs to conduct meeting and come up with measures on issues related to peace and order and public safety could be a ground for administrative charges – dereliction of duty. They were also reminded that they should perform well as they are only on a hold over capacity status. —-LGOO V Myla J. Borres
