Region 5 Delegates of the LGRRC Knowledge Exchange Program in Central Visayas visit the historical city of Lapu-Lapu.
On the second day of the benchmarking and knowledge-sharing activity between LGUs of Bicol and Central Visayas, the Region 5 delegates, composed of officials and select personnel of DILG 5 and LGUs of Camalig and Daraga, visited the historical city of Lapu-Lapu at the SP Session Hall, May 31, 2023.
The department heads showed that there are many things worth replicating in Lapu-Lapu City, but the most notable ones are within the tourism sector. Some of their initiatives include the recording and proper data banking of the arrival of tourists and the grand celebration of KADAUGAN SA MACTAN, Lapu-Lapu’s traditional month-long festivity for the victory of Mactan.
The local government puts up a total budget of around PHP 4 Million for the celebration, according to John Kristoffer Rafols, Officer-in-charge of the city’s Tourism Department. Besides tourism, the LGU also focuses on Lapu-Lapu’s export processing zone, which allows economic expansion.
After a productive session, the group proceeded to the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), where they had an orientation on airport operations and management and a tour of its facilities.
Meanwhile, DILG Region 5 delegates also visited the DILG Lapu Lapu City Director Jonah V. Pino.
