Living along the typhoon belt, the Bicol Region continues to face severe weather that tests both its vulnerabilities and resilience. In 2024, Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami) and Super Typhoon Pepito (Man-yi) brought heavy rains, flooding, strong winds, landslides, and storm surges, highlighting the need to strengthen preparedness and coordination across all levels of governance.

In response, the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region V launched “Resilience in Action: Assessing Severe Weather Disturbances’ Impact on the Bicol Region and Leveraging Future Preparedness.” A field documentation team conducted visits and interviews in severely affected LGUs including the Province of Albay, Province of Camarines Sur, Naga City, and the Province of Catanduanes.

These engagements documented the experiences of LGUs and communities, compiled into a coffee table book. Copies were formally turned over to the Provincial Offices of Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Naga City for dissemination and reference among their LGUs.

More than a publication, the documentation highlights the resilience of Bicolanos and serves as a valuable resource for strengthening disaster preparedness and building more resilient communities.
