Punong Barangays of Camarines Sur attend conference on “Progresibong Bikol: Laban sa Droga at Kurapsyon”
With the 2018 Barangay Elections fast approaching, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Bicol Affairs and Office of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government Provincial Office of Camarines Sur headed by Provincial Director Melody E. Relucio, CESO V, held a conference for all Punong Barangays of the province relative to the role of the barangay in the attainment of the administration’s primary thrust of a drug-clear and corruption-free Philippines. The activity was held last April 23, 2018 at The Tent, Avenue Hotel in Naga City with 70% of the province’s Punong Barangays in attendance.
Also present during the activity are DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin B. Diño, Undersecretary for Bicol Affairs Marvel C. Clavecilla, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission Chairperson Dante Jimenez, Camarines Sur Governor Miguel Luis R. Villafuerte, DILG V Regional Director Elouisa T. Pastor, CESO IV, Provincial Directors Arnel Renato L. Madrideo (Albay), Renato S. Alaurin, CESO V (Camarines Norte), Ray B. Caceres, CESO V (Masbate), Julius Rodel L. Cal-Ortiz, CESE (Sorsogon) and DILG Camarines Sur field officers.
In his speech, Usec. Diño, a former Punong Barangay himself, shared to the Punong Barangays his wish for all barangay officials to be considered as regular government employees with sufficient compensation including fixed salary, allowances, medical and dental insurance and retirement benefits. He emphasized the barangay as the first line of defense of the government in facing the fight against criminality, illegal drugs, corruption and insurgency.
Staying true to the DILG’s mandate of ensuring public safety and promoting peace and order, Usec. Diño emphasized the importance of conducting clean and honest elections this coming May 14, 2018. He also reiterated that barangay officials and candidates must adhere to the rules set by the COMELEC and adopt DILG’s core values of being MATINO, MAHUSAY at MAAASAHAN to become true public servants.
