DILG Camarines Sur assisted the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur during its Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) Meeting for the 1st Quarter of Calendar Year 2016 on February 10, 2016 at Villa Del Rey Function Hall, Capitol, Complex, Cadlan Pili, Camarines Sur.
The Provincial Government of Camarines Sur invited members of the PPOC to attend the meeting to discuss 1) the preparations for the forthcoming elections of concerned agencies; 2) the status of the declaration of the province as a conflict-manageable and ready for further development province; and 3)peace and order programs and budget for Calendar Year 2016 and its approval.
Provincial Director Arnel Renato L. Madrideo, Head of the PPOC Secretariat, was tasked to acknowledge the members of the PPOC and to determine if there is a quorum. Twenty-one (21) members of the PPOC attended the meeting, thus, the three (3) agenda of the meeting and the concerns of the Provincial Prosecution Office of Camarines Sur were deliberated upon by the council.
With Vice-Governor Fortunato C. Peňa as the presiding officer of the PPOC meeting, the preparations of the Philippine National Police(PNP) and the Philippine Army (PA) in the forthcoming elections were discussed. Specifically, PNP Provincial Director Walfredo G. Pornillos presented the peace and order situation report of the province and mentionedthe PNP’s accomplishments as well as preparations for the forthcoming elections. Likewise, Col. Ferozaldo Paul Regencia, PA’s Deputy Brigade Commander of 902nd Infantry Brigade and Commander of Task Group Camarines Sur, clarified that the role of the PA during elections is to support the PNP.He also assured the body that the declaration of the province as a conflict-manageable and ready for further development provinceis still in effect and is not being hampered by the encounters that happened in the province.
Further, the Peace and Order Programs and Budget of the province were approved after the presentation made by Ms. Leah Yamzon of the Provincial Budget Office. Moreover, Provincial Prosecutor Richard Cu was able to update the council about the cases handled by the Provincial Prosecution Office.
The conduct of a quarterly PPOC meeting is encouraged by the DILG to ensure that peace, order and public safety concernsof the LGU are acted upon because it is only when communities are peaceful, orderly and safe that development can happen. (LGOO V Kathlyn B. Lopez)
