The DOST-PHIVOLCS partnered with the United States Department of State Office of International Disaster Response, and United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO and its International Tsunami Information Center to implement Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme in the Philippines.
This is an international community-based recognition programme aimed at building resilient communities through awareness and readiness strategies that will protect lives, livelihoods and property from tsunamis.
With this partnership, the Tsunami Ready Philippines National Workshop was conducted on December 8-11, 2025 at Park Inn by Radisson, North EDSA in its objective to bolster the capacity of national and local government offices in guiding communities towards preparedness and achieving ‘Tsunami Ready’ recognition.
Looking forward, the DILG, as Vice Chair on Disaster Preparedness, commits to support this programme towards attaining the goal of ensuring 100% of communities at risk of tsunami are prepared for and resilient to tsunamis by 2030.
Participants in the national workshop are LGOO V Gale Escoto of DILG R5 and other representatives from OCD, DOST, and LDRRMOs from Provinces, City and Municipality of Bicol Region.
